What is the best farming setup in Rust? ›

The most efficient farm base designs have planters in groups of 3 or 6 due to ceiling light and sprinkler mechanics. This design has planters in groups of 3. It's important that the sprinklers do not have line of sight to more planters than this or they will not receive enough water to keep the planter topped off.

Each individual planter needs its own ceiling light. Place three sprinklers at the intersection of each farm block.

Sprinklers will each take two mil per second out of any water source. If your source only puts out 6, that's 3 sprinklers maximum. Double that for a source of 12 from the water barrel or large catcher. Freshwater will steadily increase the saturation of the soil, whereas saltwater will drain it.

Fill the container completely with soil, leaving some space between the top of the soil and the top of the pot (this is sometimes referred to as head space). In large container gardens, you can leave up to 2 inches;in smaller pots you might only leave ½ inch.

The Salvaged Icepick is the best craftable pickaxe in the game. Although it costs the same as a Salvaged Axe (1 metal pipe and 5 metal blades), it's definitely more worthwhile picking up. It brings the best of the Stone Pick Axe's mining speed with the Pick Axe's overall efficiency.
